A surprising and unforgettable village: discover Jericoacoara

Updated: May 2

Affectionately called Jeri, Jericoacoara is a small fishing village in Ceará and is known for its charming beaches, walks through the sand dunes and unique cuisine!

Honestly, Jeri was one of the best trips of my life and I'm sure that if you go, you'll love it!

Therefore, I have put together some tips and itineraries for you to enjoy this paradisiacal place.

Who is this trip suitable for?

Jericoacoara has activities for all ages.

For those who want a good place to rest, have contact with nature and stay away from clutter, Jeri is the perfect place.

However, those who want excitement, lively nights and parties, Jeri is also the right option!

I went with my parents and my brother. My parents wanted the calm, and I wanted the excitement. So it was the perfect place to bring together the best of both worlds!

Oh! I guarantee that it is very calm there, because the law of silence is taken very seriously, so at 10pm everything closes and the guards are on patrol to guarantee the night's peace in the village.

The best thing about all this is that you can wake up really early and really enjoy the day!

What is Vila de Jeri like?

The village itself is difficult to access, as it is far from the airport and you have to go through sandy roads to get there.

Upon arrival, you will come across guards at the entrance, to control the entry and exit of tourists, thus ensuring environmental control of the area.

Jeri has a simple but very cozy structure. For those from São Paulo, you will find it strange that everywhere has alleys (and the alleys there are not dangerous lol).

The village has wonderful restaurants, nightlife (until 10pm), cozy inns and activities such as kitesurfing.

How to get?

The village of Jeri belongs to the municipality of Jijoca de Jericoacoara, in the state of Ceará, about 300 km from Fortaleza.

If you choose to arrive via Fortaleza airport, you can hire a transfer (shared or private) to take you to the village of Jeri. It's a good option, as the logistics of renting a car don't work very well in the village, due to circulation restrictions.

Cars are parked at the entrance to the village and it is not recommended to tour the national park without a tour guide, so renting a car is not the best option for this trip.

For those who want more comfort and convenience, the best option is not to disembark in Fortaleza, but rather at the airport in the city of Cruz, which is 30 km from Jeri and receives flights from 2017.

Cruz airport is called Jericoacoara Airport (JJD), and receives flights from Azul, Gol, Latam and Voepass.

The trip is much more comfortable, since, arriving at this airport, all you need to do is hire a private or shared transfer upon arrival (no need to book in advance, unless you prefer) and, within about 40 minutes, you will arrive at the village of Jeri.

When to go?

We can say that Jericoacoara is a destination to be visited all year round, but I still think it's important to clarify that there are better times to make this trip.

For those who like action, parties and entertainment, Jeri is a great option for New Year's Eve. At the end of the year, the festivities excite tourists and the village is full of young people looking for fun, which is why we say that from the second half of December until the Carnival holiday, it is high season in Jericoacoara.

But Carnival in Jeri isn't usually as lively as New Year's Eve, so if your goal is to party, it's best to go on New Year's Eve.

Regarding rain, the best time to visit Jeri is in the second half of the year, as rain is more frequent in the first half.

But it's worth an observation here: although it rains more during the first half of the year, this will not, as a rule, interfere with your trip, as it rarely rains all the time and all day... the rain usually alternates with hours of sunshine.
